Moms Care about Product Safety and Quality!

Product safety is of the utmost importance to all of us at HearthSong. Our dedication to finding the most unique and enduring products for our customers takes us all over the world, and every toy — no matter its country of origin — is submitted to the same stringent safety testing.

Our Product Safety and Quality Assurance team works closely with our Merchandise Team to analyze each prospective toy's safety from every possible angle before it can be considered for inclusion in the catalog. Our QA associates are all members of the American Society for Quality and regularly review Federal and State requirements to make sure our testing standards conform to the most current mandated regulations.

We require that every product be tested to the most rigorous criteria of the American Standards for Testing Materials (ASTM F963) and the Code of Federal Regulations (16 CFR 1303) for Lead In Paint. In addition, we require that every toy comply with the strictest standards for material safety, flammability, choking hazards, sharp points, pinching, and more.

Our vendors, too, are required to submit documentation from independent testing laboratories proving their products conform to the appropriate safety standards. All products are routinely reviewed and updated documentation requested, guaranteeing consistent quality and adherence to safety standards for as long as we carry each item.

Christmas Wonderland

My Bronner's catalog came in the mail today. They have so many original ornaments in there! I found some from Hungary that I plan on purchasing. Since my husband took a trip to Hungary this year, I thought it would be neat to give gifts that originated there. It would have been too much for him to bring all those gifts home with him!

I was pleased, as well, to find many ornaments that are made here in the USA. I would make a point of purchasing American made if given the choice.

I found one ornament in the catalog that was an exact replica of a scrumptious chocolate chip cookie. It was only $5.99! Included with the ornament is a printed card telling the story of the original Toll House Cookie and its inventor, Ruth Wakefield (read her story here) I thought it would go great with a batch of homemade chocolate chip cookies. If I can't find the time to make the cookies myself, I can purchase some online. There are lots of yummy cookie makers out there. Two of my favorites are Cheryl & Co and David's Cookies - Free Shipping Every Day!

If I buy the cookies online, I know that they'll already arrive in a pretty package, otherwise, if I do it myself, I'll need to be present them well. The present is all in the presentation, you know! lol
They would be great in a bakery bag tied with a pretty ribbon. A basket or tin will hold them nicely as well. A cellophane bag tied with the ribbon of your choice would be a pretty gift also. I could include the ornament in a basket or I would tie it to the top of the package.

Chocolate Chip Cookies are my absolute favorite cookie. I've never met one I didn't like. I think a small gift like this would make someone very happy.

The Gift of Ice Cream

Welcome to National Ice Cream Day. To celebrate, I visited the Turkey Hill Ice Cream site.

While I was there, I did some Christmas shopping. They have some cool stuff for all those ice cream lovers on your list. What I chose were the gift certificates. You get a pack of 5 for $24.95. Who doesn't like to go the store and get something free? And such an easy way to shop early and shop smart.

For the younger people on my list, I might just buy the gift certificates. For the older people, or the families, though, I'd use them as an ingredient in a gift basket. Then I'd surround them with a scoop and some bowls, maybe some sauces and toppings. For the larger gift, I'd probably add a winter-themed movie, like "Snow Dogs." And, maybe a little cow since the Turkey Hill mascot is a cow.

Speaking of the Turkey Hill cow, if you or someone you know has a Christmas time birthday, you can enter them to win a visit from the cow herself! Of course, she won't come empty-hoofed, either. She'll come bearing lots of ice cream and other fun stuff. Now wouldn't that make a great gift for someone? They'd love you forever if you brought all that fun to their day!
